We are a townhouse community that was hit very hard by the storm at lake Anna on Friday before the holiday weekend. David Kennedy Tree and Landscaping was quick to arrive and had a fair price. They showed up in force to address a number of uprooted trees and did so in short order with a large crew and the trucks and equipment. The community is very happy and pleased with the work they performed. We plan to have them back for more work in the future.

Had to be out of town the day they came. Was able to watch some of the work on my doorbell camera. Could see they did a great job, verified with follow up photos and paid via Venmo. Job well done!

David Kennedy and his crew are on time and start working as soon as the truck stops. Great work done and they clean up behind themselves. I would highly recommend this tree service.

Fast and clean crew. They worked safely around my house and made sure the property was clean before they left. David was great with communication and scheduling.

David showed up early, gave me a fantastic price (lowest of the 3 companies I had do estimates) within 5 min, came to get the job done 2 days before expected and it looks wonderful!

What can I say about David and his crew? They were absolutely incredible. Went above and beyond everything I expected. Watching them work was amazing. On day 1 we had 4 large trees taken down. On Day 2, they cleared more than a dozen, including 2 large ones extremely close to my house, 2 dead ones, and 2 with trunks half rotted through. My property has never looked better, and I will be calling them again soon to come back and grind out all the stumps. We found our landscaper for life. Can't recommend highly enough.

David and his team provided a great quote for the removal of a large tree that had begun to damage our driveway. They were communicative, prompt, professional and handled a large and potentially dangerous job safely and quickly! I would highly recommend them to anyone needing their services and would be sure to use them again!

We had two trees that were leaning with the risk of falling and damaging property. David responded very quickly and came to our house the next day. He was professional, efficient, and did a great job. I highly recommend his services!

Our Expert Tree Care for Castleton Properties

We know Castleton because we work here, on country homes, working farms, historic properties like Laurel Mills, and large estates near The Meadows. Mature trees on these rural properties often lean over roofs, decks, and gravel driveways carved into the hillside. Fences and outbuildings near the tree line get the same close look, since one weak limb can put your whole property at risk.

The area also runs from flat pasture to steep, wooded ridges within a few hundred yards. That shift changes how we work. A tree on a 15-degree slope needs different rigging than one on open ground. So, before we recommend anything, our arborist checks tree health, terrain grade, access, and nearby structures like walk-out basements below the canopy.

What We Offer

Tree Services for Local Homes and Acreage

We offer seven core services for homes, farms, and wooded acreage. The right choice depends on the tree’s condition, location, and the property around it.

Tree Removal

We remove mature oaks, tulip trees, maples, and pines near your home. Oak decline and root rot from mountain runoff around Castleton weaken trees from the inside out. On steep slopes, we use controlled rigging so hazardous trees drop safely.

Arborist Service

Our arborist runs a full tree assessment, checking roots, trunk, and canopy health. Drought stress during dry summer months leaves trees open to disease and pests. We watch closely for oak wilt, bacterial leaf scorch, and emerald ash borer damage.

Tree Trimming

We trim deadwood and storm-damaged limbs hanging over roofs, decks, and driveways. Wet spring weather brings dogwood anthracnose, so we prune infected limbs before it spreads. Thinning dense canopies also cuts wind resistance during high-wind mountain gusts.

Emergency Tree Service

Summer thunderstorms and winter ice snap limbs and uproot trees fast. Weakened root systems on saturated slopes give way without warning, especially along Castle Mountain Rd and Hope Hill Rd. When fallen trees block these narrow country roads or driveways, we clear access first.

Stump Grinding

We grind large hardwood stumps left behind after tree removal work. Rocky, clay-heavy soil common on hillside lots makes stump removal slower and tougher. But our machines grind roots four to six inches below grade for a clean finish.

Land Clearing

We clear wooded acreage across farms, estates, and large rural lots throughout the local neighborhoods. Land clearing opens space for construction, pasture expansion, or new site preparation. We clear carefully near streams to protect riparian buffers and water quality.

Tree Care & Maintenance

Routine tree care keeps mature hardwoods healthy through drought, storms, and pest seasons. We monitor for spotted lanternfly, scale insects, and early signs of oak decline. This ongoing maintenance protects trees around your home, fields, and wooded property lines.

Built for Rural Properties

Large acreage, long gravel driveways, and wooded lots like those near The Meadows shape how we work. Uneven, sloped ground and trees crowding outbuildings or fence lines call for judgment, not guesswork.

Start to Finish

Our Approach to Tree Work

Castleton’s slopes, wooded properties, and limited access can change how we approach a job. Our David Kennedy Tree & Landscaping team adjusts the approach based on the tree, terrain, and property around it.

Assess the Tree and Site

We check the tree’s health, lean, and root stability before touching a chainsaw. On sloped ground, we also check access, footing, and nearby decks or utility lines.

Execute Trimming or Removal

On flat lots, we trim deadwood or set up a controlled removal plan. Where slopes or structures block open felling, we climb and rig, then section large trunks and often lower them by hand. Heavy equipment can’t hold steady on these grades, and an uncontrolled drop can roll or slide straight into a fence or home below.

Grind the Remaining Stump

Once removal is done, we grind the stump below grade. Rocky, clay-heavy soil common here makes this slower work and can increase labor costs, but it clears the way for lawn or landscaping.

Clear and Restore Access

We haul branches, logs, and debris out, then check fences and outbuildings nearby. On narrow gravel driveways, we make sure access stays clear before we call the job done.
